Technical Question? Here Are Some Common Issues:
-
What is LimeWire?
LimeWire is a peer-to-peer file sharing program that connects to the Gnutella network and enables users to search for and download files from other users. It is not a web site or a service, and Lime Wire does not provide any of the content found on the network. LimeWire enables you to share your files with millions of other LimeWire users, and vice versa, so there is always a diverse selection of files available.

Why can't I find what I'm looking for?
Check the connection quality bars in the lower left corner of LimeWire. If you have 0 bars or 1 bar, then you aren't connected, and you should wait for LimeWire to connect. If LimeWire does not connect, then you won't be able to find files, but any previously started downloads will be unaffected by your connectivity.
Also, because LimeWire files are shared between users, it is impossible to guarantee that you will always find the file you are looking for or that it will download at the desired speed every time. The speed of a download as well as its availability depends on the internet connection of both users as well as the presence of users who have the file you are looking for.
If you are connected but can't find what you're looking for, try broadening your search criteria. A broader search will generally return more results than a specific search. Note that Lime Wire does not place files on the Gnutella network and does not guarantee that you will find the file you are looking for.

LimeWire has only one bar in the bottom left corner. Why won’t it connect?
Please note that while LimeWire usually connects quickly upon launch, you may need to wait a while, especially if you have not used LimeWire for some time. Once it connects, you will not have to wait each time you search for a file. If you have waited several minutes and LimeWire still does not connect, then click here for other solutions to this issue.

When I double-click a search result, nothing happens.
You may have selected "Always use this answer" on a dialogue box. In order to correct it, go to Tools > Options > View > Popups > Revert to Default. On a mac, go to LimeWire > Preferences > View > Popups > Revert to Default.

How can I get LimeWire to download files faster?
The speed at which a download takes place is limited by both the bandwidth of the downloader and by the bandwidth of the uploader. For example, if you have a T1 Internet connection and you are trying to download a file from a person with a 56K modem, your transfer is going to take place rather slowly. In general, the best way to increase download speeds is to obtain more sources per download. There are a few tips that can help along those lines.
- LimeWire PRO increases the limit on search results yielding more sources when they are available and allows downloading from more hosts simultaneously, often yielding faster downloads.
- When choosing a file to download, choose the file with the most sources in the "#" or "From" column.
- Download multiple versions of the same file simultaneously, as one may find better sources.
- Repeat the search for the same file while the download is in progress. LimeWire will automatically add new sources to the current download.
- Disconnect from the network, then reconnect, and try the search again.

I downloaded some files. How do I use them with other programs?
The best way to get help using your files with other programs is to consult the Help documentation for the specific program you are trying to use. Because there are so many applications out there to choose from, we're unable to provide support on each one.
Knowing where your files are stored will enable you to use them with other programs or devices. Open the "My Documents" folder in Windows XP (just "Documents" in Windows Vista or your home folder in Mac OS X), and look for the LimeWire folder. Files downloaded through LimeWire are saved to the "Saved" folder.

LimeWire won't install, and I get an error.
There may have been an error in the transmission of the installer causing it to become corrupt while it was being downloaded. Delete the installer that you have already downloaded and clear your browser's cache, then try downloading it again. Also make sure that you are not using any download managers or download accelerators as they have been known to produce these errors.
