LimeWire is no longer developed for Mac Classic (OS 9 and earlier), Mac OS X 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3.

We regret to inform our Macintosh Classic and early Mac OS X users that Lime Wire will no longer develop future versions of its software for these operating systems.

Lime Wire remains a supporter of the Macintosh community and will continue to publish future versions of LimeWire for OS X.

Affected users can choose to do one of the following:

  • Continue using the last stable release of LimeWire (as found on this page).
  • Upgrade their operating system to the latest version of OS X and use the latest version of LimeWire.

Lime Wire has not undertaken the decision to halt releases for the older Macintosh community lightly. However, our decision allows us to conserve resources and implement exciting new features in the future. Much of the software industry, including both Apple™ and Adobe™, stopped Macintosh Classic development in 2003. In addition, Apple has decided to release the newest versions of Java only on their newest operating systems. Lime Wire can no longer ignore the limitations that these older operating systems and older Java versions place on Java development. We would gladly continue supporting the Macintosh community using Classic and OS X releases up to and including 10.3 if there were a way to provide a Java environment that was stable and up-to-date. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to provide a stable Java environment on these platforms.

Thank you for being our loyal customers and we look forward to serving you on the the latest OS X platforms.

Thanks,
The LimeWire Team!
